What is IGF-1 LR3?
IGF-1 LR3 is a modified version of insulin-like growth factor-1 with two important changes: arginine replaces glutamic acid at position 3 (the 'R3') and a 13-amino-acid extension is added to the N-terminus (the 'L' for long). These modifications dramatically reduce binding to IGF binding proteins, leaving more free IGF-1 LR3 available to bind receptors, and extend the half-life from minutes to roughly a day.
The research interest is muscle hypertrophy. IGF-1 is one of the primary downstream mediators of growth hormone's anabolic effects, and IGF-1 LR3 allows researchers to bypass the GH axis and directly stimulate IGF-1 receptors.
